Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Americanswith Disabilities Act (ADA) in Downtown Jackson

disAbilityConnections and LifeWays will unite for a special celebration to commemoratethe 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The generalpublic is invited to bring a chair and join in on the festivities at the parkin Downtown Jackson, where guests will gather together, share anniversary cake,listen to music and pass out balloons.

Bucky Harris Park, Corner of JacksonStreet and Michigan Avenue, DowntownJackson, MI 49201

Monday, July 26,2010, 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM

WHY:
The ADA was signed into law on July26, 1990 and gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities,similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex,national origin, age and religion. Since its signing, the ADA has provided morediverse opportunities for employment, accessible voting, recreation, publictransportation and healthcare, universal design and public accommodations,video relay services, closed captioning and—most of all—greater changes inaccess to our communities.
